Saints striker warned after treble

- BY DANIEL SHELDON

MAURICIO PELLEGRINO has urged Southampton’s Charlie Austin to keep his feet on the ground.

Austin has returned from exile on the south coast to score three times in as many Premier League games.

Saints boss Pellegrino, who had largely used the forward as a sub this campaign, said: “Hopefully Charlie can continue working with humility because every single player has to use the training sessions to be better.

“Also, you have to know what your main quality is and what your character is like to be a top player.

“You have to do a really good job and we have to be patient with the player because football is changing every single week.

“For me, Charlie isn’t a player who has technical limitations. Everybody has limitations as a person. I have limitations as a person. Charlie has something because he has character and competitive.

“This is important for him but is also important for the team. I believe we have to create chances to try to find different solutions in every single game.”

Saints tomorrow host Arsenal, who arrive at St Mary’s full of confidence after their 6-0 drubbing of BATE Borisov in Thursday’s Europa League tie.

And

Pellegrino believes it is too soon to rule out the Gunners of the race to be Premier League champions.

“It’s still really early to make comments or draw any conclusions so far,” said the Argentinian.

“The last third is the most important part of the season and Arsenal have to have this race at the end with good performances.
