FOOTBALL hero Michael Owen’s Bentley got trapped in the snow.

Owen, 37, a former Liverpool and England striker, had parked the car under a tree outside his North Wales home trying to protect it from the weather. But he woke early yesterday to find the branches he had hoped would shelter his car were now on top of it after they bent under the weight of the snow. Owen tweeted pictures, saying: “Not ideal at 5.30am when you’ve got a train to catch!

“Thought I was clever sheltering my car from the snow!” Snow plan went wrong A HEARTWARMING video shows an Irish dad breaking the news to his delighted children that their school had been closed for the day due to snow.

Danny Mcdonagh, from Louisburgh, Co Mayo, prepared the recording for Ciara, 10, and six-year-old Ruairi listing schools closed in the area due to the wintry weather.

Mum Tracy said: “One of our favourite shows is The Goldbergs and an episode that they watched recently was about a snow day.

“Usually the kids in the show listen to the radio – it’s set in the 80s – waiting for the school closure announcements and always end up having the only school that stays open but in this episode it was closed and they have the best snow day ever.

“Our kids wished at the time that they could have the same.

“So my Danny did a fake news report listing all the other schools around us as being closed and theirs was the last one... closed.” IRELAND woke up to another blisteringly cold morning after temperatures plummeted to -4C last night.

A yellow low temperature warning was issued by Met Eireann due to the frost last night.

The snow and freezing conditions have caused widespread disruption to schools, roads and transport all over the country.

Met Eireann said temperatures will stay around 4C to 7C for most of the week – with winter sunshine breaking through on Friday.

Forecaster Liz Gavin added: “There’s a band of rain pushing across the country bringing sleet.

“The temperature will be 4C to 7C, with lows overnight of 1C to 4C.”

And throughout the country over the next week there will be a chance of more snow.

Ms Gavin said: “Wintry precipitation on lower levels, but we are unlikely to see accumulation or disruption like we did on Sunday.”

Up until Thursday we could see wintry showers but by Friday there should be more winter sunshine and temperatures of 5C to 7C. Thousands of children, mainly in the Midlands and West, were kept off classes during “snow days”.

Up to 50 schools in Longford, Snow in the Dublin Mountains Roscommon and Galway closed due to snow and ice.

Several schools in Ballinrobe and Claremorris opened late to give the temperature a chance to rise. The were
