Sarah Greene laid bare her insecurities PENNY Dreadful star Sarah Greene has revealed her sometimes precarious career has left her uncertain about buying a home.

The 33-year-old Cork actress also told how she was depressed last year when she was out of work for a lengthy spell.

She said: “I’m still struggling along. It’s scary. I didn’t work for five months last year.

“For a long time, I linked my identity to my job. When I wasn’t working, I had nothing to give — you can easily fall into a dark rut.

“I got over it. You hit 30 and you think, ‘As long as my friends like me, I’m happy’.” Greene, who dated Poldark star Aidan Turner for five years before splitting in 2005, added job insecurity is part of showbusiness. The Gaiety School of Acting graduate, who has starred in the West End and on Broadway, spoke out after being invited to address students from her old school about a career in acting.

She revealed: “You’ve no control over this job. When you realise that and let go, you become free.

“It’s that bohemian thing – will I be in London, New York or Azerbaijan next year? Living out of a suitcase, seeing what adventures lie ahead. It is exciting.

“Yeah, I’d like to buy a house at some point, but it won’t be this year or next.”

The award-winning actress also admitted she was fortunate not to have fallen victim to shamed sex pest producer Harvey Weinstein.

She told the Sunday Times: “I worked with him, but I was never on my own with him. I was one of the lucky ones.”

And Greene, who is staring in Jez Butterworth’s drama The Ferryman at London’s Gielgud Theatre, is not shocked by the revelations of Hollywood abuse.

The beauty added: “It’s been part of an actress’s journey for years and years, decades and decades – something you put up with. But now it’s changing.”
