Doing the double is Wel hard

- BY DECLAN ROONEY

MUNSTER captain Peter O’mahony wants to avoid being beaten up in Welford Road again as the province seek to take a huge step towards the Champions Cup knock-out stages on Sunday.

Munster were ruthless at Thomond Park on Saturday as they battered Leicester Tigers in a bonus point win, but the captain is keen to back up that win this time round.

Exactly 12 months ago, Munster had a similar victory in Limerick before they were physically ground into submission the following week in Leicester. O’mahony wants to avoid a repeat of that 18-16 defeat.

O’mahony, who crowned a brilliant display with his side’s third try at the weekend, said: “You look back at last year, we were beaten up physically over there. That is something we need to address and it is very difficult because Leicester are a proud side.

“Welford Road is an incredibly difficult place to play and you are going back to back against a team who are coming off a loss.

“It is a difficult thing to do because you are up against an animal backed into a corner. You have to try and win the physical battle.”

Saturday’s win sees Munster four points clear of Castres and five ahead of Leicester and Racing 92, but with two away games to come they still face a fight to reach the last eight.

In such a tight group it is unlikely two teams will progress, so O’mahony and his side will be keen to nail another solid performance.

“You have to put that stuff aside. You have to go and put in a performance, whatever else happens.

“You just have to go out and look after yourself and try and get a win.”
