TERESA Mannion has revealed she encouraged Marty Morrissey to sign up for Dancing With The Stars.

The RTE news reporter was one of 11 celebrity contestants in the first season of the show and said she urged the pal to get involved.

Teresa said she’s on hand if the 59-year-old sports presenter needs any advice when it comes to learning his steps.

She told the Irish Mirror: “I think it’s a really lively mix, it’s going to be very good television.

“There are lots of different characters, lots of different personalities and ages but that’s what makes it a great show. It’s going to be so much fun.

“I know Marty well, I was chatting to him and saying if he needed any tips or advice [I’m here].

“I had said to him a few times during the year, ‘Marty you have to do this’. He has such a big following.”

It’s been nearly 10 months since the curtain closed on the first season of DWTS but Teresa hasn’t hung up her dancing shoes just yet and still does drop-in classes.

She was at Croke Park yesterday to host the Road Safety Authority’s annual Leading Lights In Road Safety Awards, which honours people around the country who have worked to keep Irish roads safe. The Galway-based broadcaster revealed she started presenting the gongs after her news report during Storm Desmond went viral.

Teresa said she’s happy her message of “don’t make unnecessary journeys” is being seen as an important safety message. She added: “Two years on and Twitter went crazy again, thousands of people were going on about it and putting up the memes. It’s never going to go away. It just hit a nerve.

“Mainly, I love the fact that it can be used in a good public service way.”
