TWO FACE CHARGES OVER BABY SHOOTING dad of 15 & woman, 23, held in ‘feud’

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

TWO people have been charged in connection with the shooting of three family members including a baby.

A 23-year-old woman is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court in Dublin this morning.

Earlier yesterday Dan Donovan, 48, appeared at the same court on two counts following the attack at a halting site in Co Dublin on Monday.

The dad-of-15 was arrested by gardai investigating the blasting of tot John Collins, his mother Lynn Doyle, 29, and 17-year-old uncle Matthew “Matsie” Collins, who remain in hospital.

Donovan, wearing a purple jumper, grey shirt and blue jeans, did not speak during the hearing. Garda Michael Jones of Blanchardstown Garda Station said at 4.49pm he charged the accused with two counts.

Donovan was accused of threats to kill and possession of a shotgun during the alleged incident at Parslickstown Gardens in Mulhuddart.

In reply to the threats to kill charge, he said: “All lies, that’s all s**t talk”. Donovan made no reply to the shotgun offence.

A prosecution lawyer objected to bail due to the seriousness of the charges. The court heard Donovan’s relatives were involved in a feud with members of the Collins family over a “clandestine relationship”.

Garda Jones outlined claims by a witness who claimed to have seen the incident but Judge Bryan Smyth made an order banning the publication of details of the application.

Defence lawyer Oisin Clarke said the prosecution had not presented evidence to block his client’s release on bail. Judge Smyth agreed with Mr Clarke’s submission and said he could not take the statement read out in court as proven.

He added: “I will grant bail but impose strict conditions.” The judge ruled Donovan, from Blessington, Co Tot John Collins Wicklow, must stay away

and not contact members of the extended Collins family.

The accused was also banned from Dublin, particularly Blanchardstown.

He must sign on daily at his local Garda station and abide by a night-time curfew.

Donovan also has to notify gardai if he leaves the country or change address.

The judge adjourned the case until next Tuesday where the accused will appear at Clover Hill District Court.
