Irish takeaway wraps up second spot in list of world’s favourite fast food

- BY DEMELZA de BURCA

A BURRITO from an Irish takeaway has come second in the top 100 most ordered meals in the world this year.

We’re truly a nation of takeaway lovers as dishes from eight restaurants from our country made the list.

Dublin’s Boojum narrowly missed out on top spot to a Les Fernandines cheeseburger from Lille-based restaurant Big Fernand’s, on the list compiled from data from over 30,000 restaurants that work with Deliveroo all over the world.

A Boojum’s Twojum from the chain’s Belfast outlet also made the top 10 in sixth place, alongside a cheeseburger from Five Guys in London, a Tripletta pizza from Tripletta in Paris and a chicken salad bowl from Singapore amongst others.

Further down the list, there were mentions for black bean chicken in Ramen in Cork (77), teriyaki donburi in Wagamama in Dublin (78), a steak and cheese sub from Subway in Dublin (84), chicken tenders from Rocket’s in Dublin (92), parma pizza from Pompeii Pizza in Cork (94) and fresh North Atlantic cod from Beshoff Bros in Dublin (97). Deliveroo claimed 2017 has been a year of adventure.

A spokesman said: “We’ve seen the rise of Hawaiian cuisines, as poke took the world by storm. “Brightly-coloured dishes such as the mesmerising Buddha Bowls were followed by a wave of grey, as charcoal became the most Instagrammable ingredient of the moment.”

But some creey crawlies also made their way to the top of the trends list.

Deliveroo said: “The more daring foodies enjoyed a selection of critters served in an array of dishes, from cricket and tomato salads to buffalo worm and caramel desserts.” Boojum burrito
