JACK MCCAFFREY says the claims that Dublin’s players agreed as a group to skip last month’s International Rules series were “ludicrous”.

No Dublin player represented Ireland in the two tests against Australia – the first time the current All-ireland champions haven’t had at least one player involved. Wing-back Mccaffrey was ruled out due to a cruciate knee ligament injury and said the rest of the players who declined had their own individual reasons for doing so.

The Clontarf flier had a Twitter debate with ex-monaghan midfielder Dick Clerkin on the issue and fought Dublin’s corner. Mccaffrey said: “He’s entitled to his opinion and ALL-STAR defender

Jack Mccaffrey has admitted he got “carried away” during Dublin’s All-ireland final celebrations.

The speedy defender had Sunday Game viewers in stitches as he joked and gestured his way through a live TV interview that was taking place next to him.

The 2015 Footballer of the Year said: “It was I’m sure there were a lot of people who shared it with him. But Twitter can be the bane of your life at times. It can also be great.

“I just tried to make a point that there was nearly a perception out there that we had all been told not to play in the International Rules games, which couldn’t have been further from the truth.

“I would have have loved to, obviously couldn’t. I know Paul Mannion tried to give it a lash for a while but Kilmacud Crokes went on for a fair bit in the Dublin Championship.

“It was eight or whatever number that were asked, they all had individual reasons for not doing it, as opposed to this blanket response of, ‘ah, the Dubs don’t care’.

“I’ve taken massive pride in the two times I’ve represented Ireland and didn’t like the insinuation we don’t don’t take pride in representing our country.” a celebration obviously but I may have got a bit carried away with myself.

“Look, everyone was on a great buzz. It was lighthearted enough. It was funny, the reaction.

“The next day it was probably the most messages I’ve received.

“Whatever about winning the game, something like that is probably what gets you noticed.”
