Strangled Rose may have known her killer
Covered face may be key to inquiry
MURDERED Rose Hanrahan may have known the attacker who strangled her in the hallway of her home. The body of the 78 year-old widow was found by relatives at her bungalow in Thomondgate, Limerick, on Friday.
It is believed her face had been covered by a scarf when she was found.
A local source yesterday said: “There is a chance she knew her attacker. Hopefully their conscience will get the better of them and they’ll hand themselves in.” Meanwhile, the Garda Technical Bureau is due to finish a forensic examination of the scene after being granted a 48-hour extension on Saturday. Supt Derek Smart of Henry Street Garda station, who is leading the inquiry, said his officers are also examining CCTV.
Meanwhile, a former detective has warned anyone found to be withholding information will face possible prosecution in the courts.
Sean Lynch said: “Don’t shield them. There are repercussions for people that are shielding [criminals], or that had information that would [have] led to the early arrests. There is no place in society for the perpetrator, and they need to be brought to justice, sooner rather than later.”
“It’s absolutely shocking, and there are no words to describe the disgust that, I feel myself — and I’m sure I’m speaking for everybody that a 78-year-old woman should come to her end in this fashion.
