ULSTER BACK IN FRAME

LOUIS LUDIK believes there’s even more to come from Ulster’s explosive backline in the European Champions Cup.

Les Kiss’ men ran in six tries in Friday’s 52-24 demolition of Harlequins in Belfast to seal a bonus point win and bolster hopes of making the knockout stages.

Craig Gilroy, Stuart Mccloskey, Charles Piutua, Alan O’connor, John Cooney and Andrew Trimble were all on target at the Kingspan Stadium.

Between them, the fleet-footed trio of Piutau, Gilroy and breakthrough Ireland star Jacob Stockdale contributed 34 carries for 312 yards.

And Ludik hopes it’s a sign of things to come from the Ulstermen who lie second in the pool heading into next month’s final games against La Rochelle at home and Wasps away.

The South African (above) - who started at outside centre - said: “We have a massively talented squad and it’s nights like that you’ll remember.

“It was a great team performance and the forwards gave us a good platform to play off.

“Getting the quick guys on the edge a bit of space, when that happens you saw what they can do. That’s something we work on, giving those quick feet a bit of space to finish tries.”

On the prospect of Ulster being even more fluid and ruthless heading into the second half of the season, Ludik added: “We didn’t finish a couple of tries off and we need to work on that.

“Friday night went well and hopefully we can continue that. We’re doing our best in training and hopefully it pays off.”
