MUM CHARGED OVER BABY SHOOTING BAILED

23yr-old released on strict conditions

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

A YOUNG mother who allegedly blasted a baby and two others with a sawn-off shotgun has been granted bail.

Charlene Donovan is charged with possession of the weapon with intent to endanger life during the incident in North Dublin.

The 23-year-old was arrested by gardai investigating the shooting of an eightmonth-old tot, his mother Lynn Doyle, 29, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

They have undergone surgery and treatment for pellet injuries having been allegedly shot at the Collins family halting site at Parlickstown on December 11.

Donovan, with an address at Parlickstown Gardens, Mulhuddart, was originally remanded in custody when she did not apply for bail.

She returned to Blanchardstown District Court yesterday where a fresh application was made.

Garda Michael Parry Jones, of Blanchardstown station, objected to bail due to the seriousness of the alleged offence.

The officer said it will be claimed Donovan was seen holding the gun and discharged two shots.

He told the court it will be alleged three rounds were found at the scene and a sawnoff shotgun was later discovered in a garden in Parlickstown Gardens.

The court heard that last week the Donovans’ house was set on fire and gardai are treating the incident as suspicious.

Donovan’s lawyer said his client has intellectual disabilities and is illiterate.

He added she would refrain from living in Dublin if released.

Judge David Mchugh granted bail of €3,000 and told Donovan to sign on daily at a local Garda station.

She must surrender her passport and observe a curfew from 10pm to 7am and is to have no contact with the injured parties or members of the Collins family.

He set a remand date but ordered that it should not be made public. Charlene Donovan
