MOYES: WE ARE ALL ON SHORT TIME

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

DAVID MOYES has claimed he will not even discuss a new contract at West Ham until the end of the season.

And the former Manchester United boss said his Old Trafford experience, and the sacking of Paul Clement, proved that even Premier League managers are now working in the gig economy.

The Scot joined the Hammers last month in a deal until the end of the season.

A run of three matches unbeaten has lifted the Londoners out of the drop zone and victory over Newcastle today could see them rise to 12th.

But asked if there was an understanding that he would get a longer-term deal for keeping West Ham up, Moyes said: “No. I’m happy. I’m telling you now I won’t be talking about it with the club or anybody until the end of the season.

“That’s me saying it, not the club. I won’t have any discussion until the end of the season. Am I fighting for my own future? Totally.”

Moyes (above) signed a six-year deal at Manchester United in 2013 but was gone after 10 months.

“I think for most managers now, working on a year’s contract might be the way forward,” he said. “It might become the norm.”

The two managers today could have been in different dugouts with Rafa Benitez nearly signing for the Hammers before joining Real Madrid while Moyes’s representatives spoke to Newcastle last year.

“For different reasons, it didn’t quite come off,” he said.

West Ham striker Andy Carroll is set to start on the bench against his former club today.
