Rory replacement unveiled after face op in Christmas Day special
Brendan O’carroll Rory’s bandages come off in show MRS Brown’s Boys was back for another Christmas special – but this year there was a new face on set.
Actor Rory Cowan quit after 26 years and his replacement Damien Mckiernan was finally revealed.
In the show the new Rory Brown character had undergone extensive cosmetic surgery – explaining why his face looked completely different. The Brown family gather round to see the results and boyfriend Deano thought he looked “beautiful” after the surgeon took off the bandages but not everyone agreed.
Sister-in-law Maria said she “didn’t see any difference” before Rory asked his mammy what she thought of his new look.
Echoing the thoughts of viewers at home, she shouted: Who the f*** are you?” Fans of the comedy took to Twitter to blast the character change. One viewer said: “Oh my god no I’m sorry the new Rory is so so bad. should’ve just killed him off. I’m sorry but it just ruined the character….”
Another added: “Not liking new Rory at all you can’t change him after all the episodes he’s been in write him out kill him off but to change him ain’t gonna go down well... he could’ve been the new bf to the Scots guy or a relative but a new Rory... never gonna work”
A third said: “Bring back the old Rory @1rorycowan #Mrsbrownsboys Just isn’t the same.” Show creator and lead star Brendan O’carroll explained that the reveal is “very good”.
He told RTE Radio 1: “What I love about this episode is that everybody goes, ‘There’s no change’. Except Agnes, who goes, ‘It’s not Rory!’”
Cowan has insisted leaving the cast has been completely “amicable”.
The Dubliner said last week: “I got tired of it, I haven’t been happy for the last two years working there.”
