INCE GETS LUCKY AT THE 45TH ATTEMPT

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

IT says it all about how long Tom Ince has waited to score again in the Premier League that Tony Pulis was his Crystal Palace manager when he last netted in the top flight.

Palace are on to their seventh manager in Roy Hodgson since that day in February 2014 when Ince (above) – who was on loan at the Eagles from Blackpool – netted his first top-flight goal.

His first Huddersfield strike was also noteworthy because it came from his 45th attempt on goal and no one has tried harder to score in the Premier League this season.

Now Ince, 25, has finally managed it, Town boss David Wagner (right) wants to see more goals from the former England Under-21 midfielder, who cost £11million from Derby in the summer.

Ince was one of Derby’s most potent sources of goals in the Championship – but the

Premier League is so much more demanding.

“The first half of the season, no goals,” Wagner said. “And then the first game of the second half of the season, a first goal. So he’s on track because now his season starts.

“I’m very happy and delighted for him that he scored a very good goal with a very good assist from Collin Quaner.

“Performance-wise he played a very good season so far for us in terms of the end product.

“But we, and him, expect more from him and he had no goals until today.

“This is the perfect moment for him, and a good goal for us, and I’m sure more will follow.”
