Lorraine: Aisle not renew my vows...

-

SHE may be hosting a bizarre new Saturday night primetime show called Wedding Day Winners – but Lorraine Kelly has no plans to renew her own vows.

In the BBC1 show, like Don’t Tell the Bride meets Generation Game, two couples battle through challenges to win the right to get married on the spot plus a luxury honeymoon and other prizes.

But watching all the blushing brides get hitched to the man of their dreams hasn’t tempted her to do it all again with husband, Steve Smith.

She says: “That poor walking saint has been putting up with me for almost 30 years. I don’t think we’d renew vows. We might have a party.”

She reveals that it took her about a year before she “leapt on Steve like a ninja” back in 1987 when he was working as a cameraman on Tv-am. Her advice for a long and happy marriage is: “Don’t take each other for granted and make each other laugh.”

The pair will soon relocate from her beloved Dundee to London and sell the £800,000 house they’ve lived in since 2010. She commutes weekly to London but the travelling has worn her down.

She says: “Steve and I want to be together a bit more but that’s not to say we won’t go home a lot as all our friends and family live up there.”

In the game show, which kicks off on Saturday and is co-hosted by comic Rob Beckett, one round involves the entire audience bouncing up and down in their chairs to “pop” the cork on a champagne bottle.

It’s the first time Lorraine, in the business for three decades, has fronted on Saturday primetime. She says: “This is the biggie. I never thought in a million years I’d be doing a shiny BBC Saturday night show. It’s very grown up. I’ve loved it.”

And, despite switching sides to the Beeb, she says her bosses don’t mind. “ITV are fine with it, I’ve done lots of other stuff. I did a documentary on the love of my life, penguins, for Channel 5 and stuff for Sky.

“As long as I don’t do it at the same time I’m on in the morning, it’s fine.”
