Lottery rep Simon Reenan uncorks the Champagne THE tiny store that sold the €39million Euromillions jackpot ticket is bracing itself for an army of new customers – as punters hope the luck rubs off on them.

As it emerged a single winner may have scooped the gigantic prize, shopkeeper Amy Cong said: “It’s unreal. It’s so exciting, I’m still in shock.”

The Village Shop in Malahide, North Dublin, sold the slip last Friday, the day of the draw.

And they have another reason to celebrate as they receive a Lotto cheque for €25,000 for selling the lucky ticket.

Ms Cong, who is originally from China but has been living here for 20 years, found out on Wednesday she was caught up in the multi-million euro fairytale.

She told the Irish Mirror: “We have actually sold a winning ticket before but not as big – for €350,000.

“That was really big for us at the time and we were delighted and now this, oh my God, we’re through the roof.

PUBLICITY

“I wish the best of luck to the winner or winners. Whoever the winner is, I really hope it’s someone from the local Malahide community, which would be great for our town.

“We have lots of regular customers so I think it could be one of them, or maybe a group.”

Amy, who has owned the store with her husband Ken for five years, now hopes the shop’s share of €25,000 and the publicity will boost her business.

She said: “We are a small shop in the centre of Malahide and have a lot of regular customers and obviously for people living in Malahide, they will know us already.

“We are definitely one shops worth visiting.”

The qualified accountant added: “I never thought I’d be in the newsagent trade but now I am I love it. I like talking to people rather than sitting in the back of the office, this job suits me.”

After hearing the good news, local woman Ethna Deane was on her way into the lucky shop to buy a ticket for this weekend’s Euromillions draw, with an estimated €30million jackpot.

She said: “It’s fantastic. My husband always calls it the lucky shop. It’s terrific for Malahide and I wish the best of luck to those who won it.”

Barry Kerrigan, who owns Kerrigan Butchers next door to The Village Shop, added: “I’m delighted for them. Nobody knows who it is just yet but I wish them all the best.

“I hope they put it to good use. I hope whoever it is, if it’s someone local, they still shop in Kerrigans.” of the lucky
