I’ve been in and out of relationships all my life.. I’d love to find The One & settle down

Radio star Fergal wants romance in 2018

A scene from Spamalot the musical BROADCASTER Fergal D’arcy has revealed he’s still the most eligible bachelor in Today FM after failing to find love online.

The 35-year-old Galway man’s New Year’s resolution is to make time for his love life.

He told the Irish Mirror: “I’ve been in and out of relationships all my life. When it came to the New Year I said, ‘I’d love to find The One and settle down’ but I’m not seeing anyone at the moment.

“I’m still Today FM’S most eligible bachelor, like Michael Buble sings, ‘I just haven’t met you yet’.”

The radio star has tried online dating but is more keen on good old-fashioned flirting. Fergal said: “I have been on Tinder and Bumble but I’ve still to go on a proper date from them, I think it’s more the vote of confidence.

“It’s like, ‘OK somebody likes me, OK back to work.’ I’m quite old-fashioned, I like meeting someone face-to-face.

“I find online dating can be a bit crass, anyone can take a good picture but then they can be the most horrible person in the world.”

Fergal joined the station in 2015 taking over from the late Tony Fenton.

He is now gearing up to make his Bord Gais Energy Theatre debut with a starring role in Spamalot which kicks off on January 23. Fergal is no stranger to treading the boards at amateur level but clinching the part of Patsy was a coup.

He explained: “It’s madness and a privilege I landed the role.

“I play Patsy, Arthur’s favourite servant, it’s a lovely part.

“He’s the guy who sings Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, I have to sing and tap dance.

“But let’s put

ON PERILS OF LOOKING FOR LOVE

it this way,

Iwon’t be giving up my day job unless Hollywood comes knocking to cast me in the next Star Wars.”

Last September, Fergal raised €10,000 during the first day of the station’s Dare To Care campaign, which supports the Irish Cancer Society.

He said: “Our show has brought in the most money for the past two years, particularly important is the fact this slot is Tony Fenton’s old slot and he died from cancer.” Fergal himself was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, polycythaemia, and is still in and out of St Vincent’s Hospital getting tests.

Thankfully his red blood cell count has lowered but he has to be vigilant when it comes to his health.

He added: “We all have our vices, I’m not a saint, everything in moderation.

“What was so scary about that is I wouldn’t have gone to the doctor if I wasn’t told to by my producer Ed Smith and the Today FM programme director.

“I’m like most Irish men I don’t go to the doctor, I just go on Google. You never know when there’s something wrong with you, men are the worst for not getting checked.”
