THE PERFECT Porter: No TIME FOR ME time for lectures TO ROR Scannell eyes up Irish recall if he can star for the Reds

Leinster Ulster Tomorrow KO 5.35pm

v ANDREW Porter is a student of statistics but is unfazed that he’s missing “almost 100 per cent” of his lectures due to his pro commitments with Leinster.

Porter, 21, is in his third year of Economics at UCD and admits that he only makes it in for one or two lectures a month because they clash with training.

“It’s a bit of maths, a lot of statistics, macro and micro-economics,” he explained.

“It’s kind of tough when you can’t really make the lectures, so I’m almost teaching myself off Youtube videos at the moment.

“But it’s not going too badly. Fingers cross I’ve passed my Christmas exams.

“The people in UCD, they’ve been more than happy to provide me with tutors and everything I need outside of college hours. That has been really good.

“I’m in year two-and-ahalf almost. I’ve split it up so that I’m doing half the workload every semester. It makes it a bit more manageable.

“It gives you another side of discipline, like how to manage your time.

“I wouldn’t be one to cram all my work into the end of the semester when the exams are coming up.

“I’d be looking to pick a few minutes here and there – whatever I need to do.

“That’s not even just in my studies, it could be anything.”

In the 23-strong squad for tomorrow’s PRO14 clash with Ulster, the loosehead turned tighthead prop isn’t worried that he’s missing out on a regular College academic or social life to pursue his rugby ambitions.

Porter said: “I was never really inclined to... I know college life is going out most weeks, most days.

“But I’m more suited to a more disciplined lifestyle. It’s always what I’ve done day in, day out, even in secondary school. I wouldn’t say I miss it, but I prefer what I’m doing now.”
