Mourinho plotting move for Tierney as Man U get priced out of Sandro switch
KIERAN TIERNEY has been included on a shortlist of left backs Manchester United are considering to strengthen their defence.
The English Premier League club’s scouting department has proposed Tierney and Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon for what has been a problem position throughout Jose Mourinho’s tenure as Old Trafford manager.
Alex Sandro (below) is Mourinho’s preferred choice as new left back but Juventus have asked for a €70million transfer fee.
With every other elite left back tied down to a financially powerful Champions League club, Tierney and Sessegnon have been proposed as cheaper alternatives.
Tierney is the more experienced option having completed two Champions League campaigns with Celtic and established himself as a full international for Scotland. Celtic are keen to hold on to the player who recently signed a six-year contract extension until 2023.
Celtic keeper Craiggordon, meanwhile, insists
Celtic are not going to Dubai to just lie in the sun.
The Hoops squad has had the week off but will meet up in the Middle East to get back to work to prepare for the second half of the season.
Gordon admitted the energy levels have been in the red zone following a brutal first half of the campaign and are in desperate need of a boost.
The Scotland star said: “I am 42 games into my season. I think Kieran Tierney has played the same amount and when you add the internationals it is a lot of football. “This trip will refresh everyone and recharge the batteries but the important thing is it also allows the manager to do a bit of work on the training ground too and do a bit of coaching. “When there are so many games you have to recover to prepare for the next game and there is not the same chance to do a lot of detailed work.
“So this is a good coaching week for the players. It will let us refocus and look at the things we are good at and have another think about the way the manager wants us to play.
“We have played 12 games in Europe already – six to qualify and six in the group stages so it is a lot of games.
“We have got a big squad and those who have come in have stood up and kept us going.”
