Happy New Year firstly, here’s hoping you brought it in in fine style and in good company. There is an element of the morning after the night before when it comes to the first weekend in January, so it’s a bit of a go-slow on the events front.

The relentless partying over the last three weeks, not including the mega spend that is Christmas in general, means that more of less, week one of the year is either an entire shutdown event wise.

At the very most it’ll be a local affair, with few if any promoters taking a chance on big names that could be end up being an entire flop as the majority of revellers stay home to in an attempt to replenish the empty pockets.

That said, PYG welcome Ibiza’s Game Over crew to their first Division collaboration of 2018 tomorrow night.

Game Over run their awesome party at Benimussa Park on the White Isle and have had the likes of Carl Cox, The Martinez Brothers, Kerri Chandler all in an open air setting.

Smythy (aka Pivot) real name Eoin Smyth (inset) takes the reigns alongside PYG main man and Hybrasil creator Will Kinsella, while Game Over’s Jamie Mannion from Manchester’s Ardeo club (and also co owner of Beeyou Records) completes the line-up in the vaults.

It’s an all evening affair with Eric Brown, who enjoyed a lengthy stint in Ibiza during the summer of 2017, kicks things off in the bar along side Aaron O’donoghue from 6pm. It’s just €10 in too which is kind to you at this vulnerable financial time.

In other news, there was news that the Morgan hotel and subsequently the Morgan bar is closed as of this week. This is to facilitate the entire refurbishment of the hotel itself, which sadly leaves Dublin without one of it’s cooler venues for House music.

Synonymous with that live sax and percussion ad lib, it’ll be interesting to see what direction things will take when the venue comes back, the hotel is taking bookings from June onward so it may be six months.

On an optimistic note the refurb of Opium Rooms late in 2017 (and where I’m am playing tonight as it happens) was a glorious success and transformed the venue entirely, here is hoping the Morgan emerges from the cocoon in the same way and resumes in place as a House music oasis amid Temple Bar’s diddly eye / commercial music options.
