Taylor plots giant-killing on Wales hero

- BY MATT BAMSEY

FA Cup 3rd round: 3pm JAKE TAYLOR is ready to turn Exeter into giant-killers – and dump pal Hal Robsonkanu out of the FA Cup.

Taylor has remained mates with West Brom striker Robson-kanu since they went through the Reading and Wales ranks together.

But the Grecians midfielder will put their friendship on hold as the League

Two side try to maintain their proud FA

Cup record.

He said: “I have known Hal for a good few years. He looked after me in the Wales set-up and when I was coming through at Reading. He was good to me and I owe him a lot.

“Hal was one of those players you look up to. He has had a big influence on my career and it will it will be good to catch up again.

“You just have to look at what he has done in his career. That goal in the Euros for Wales (above) will be remembered for a long time. He did really well at Reading and deservedly got his move to the Premier League.

“Having grown up with him at Reading, it is good to see what you can achieve if you apply yourself in the right way. “As much as I admire what he’s achieved since we went our separate ways, my focus is helping Exeter to win.

“I am sure we will speak after the game and have a good catchup. Until then, we are on different sides and both trying to get into the next round.” Exeter produced a shock when they held Manchester United to a goalless draw at Old Trafford in the third round in 2005 before goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney put them out in the replay.

But the two ties helped the Grecians raise the £1million needed to save themselves from liquidation.

Now Taylor says Exeter can become giantkillers and pile fresh misery on Alan Pardew’s Premier

League strugglers.

He added: “It is win-win for us. They are a great team, but we fancy ourselves.

“Our home form has been good this season and our ground will be a bit of an eyeopener for them.”
