WE’VE GOT OUR OWN FAB

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

GOODISON PARK supremo Farhad Moshiri claims Cenk Tosun’s arrival means Everton have Merseyside’s new Fab Four.

That was the moniker given to Liverpool’s quartet of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho – until the latter joined Barcelona.

And Moshiri says Everton now boast the latest version following Tosun’s £27million capture from Besiktas.

The Turkey striker joins Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Yannick Bolasie in attack and the club’s majority shareholder is excited by their potential.

“Now we are comfortable with Cenk Tosun as a focal point, we have Bolasie back, Sigurdsson, Rooney – we have our own Fab Four,” he said.

“We are optimistic. It’s a big second half to the season for us. With the players coming back and Cenk Tosun, who is a very, very good striker.

“I saw him first in Monaco because I live there and I watched him when Monaco played Besiktas. He singlehandedly destroyed them, although it could be a flash! No, he looked very good.

“I followed him and the coaching staff liked him. There are not a lot of strikers around, so hopefully we’ve hit it right.”

Moshiri is confident Tosun can continue Everton’s revival under Sam Allardyce and is also cheered by the return from long-term injury of Bolasie and James Mccarthy, while Seamus Coleman is not far away.

“I think we had a very difficult start to the season,” he said. “I don’t deny it, it was a shock to me. After the very good season we had last year and the heavy expenditure, expectations were high.

“The team didn’t seem to have a shape, so we had to take action and the team is performing much better now.

“I’m comfortable that, with Bolasie, Mccarthy and Seamus coming back, we will have a very good second half to the season, so confident.”

Moshiri was quick to praise Allardyce for stabilising Everton so quickly when he took over in November following Ronald Koeman’s sacking and Big Sam is the first Blues boss to go unbeaten in his first seven games.

Moshiri (left, with Allardyce) believes the manager’s secret is that he simplifies everything for the players and is not surprised he has started his reign so well.

“He’s a real football man and what you can see is he’s a good tactician, but more importantly, he has a good football brain,” he said.

“He makes things simple, his instructions are clear and Sam just made the team solid. In every department, they are better. I’m not really surprised by him because I knew he would do well. That he has done so well is a bonus.” I’m quietly
