Man dies after he is impaled on railings

Body of Mick, 35, is found with puncture wounds to abdomen

The victim worked at Supervalu A MAN whose body was found with horrific wounds to his abdomen may have impaled himself on a car park’s railings.

Mick Burke, 35, was apparently on his way home from the pub when he suffered the fatal injuries.

Forensic experts were yesterday examining the scene on the Convent Road in Dalkey, Co Dublin, and examining CCTV footage.

Gardai last night ruled out foul play after receiving the preliminar­y results of a postmortem.

A file on Mr Burke’s death prepared for the coroner.

The deceased’s apartment is just feet from where he died. He was originally from Blackrock but moved to Dalkey where he worked as a butcher in the local Supervalu.

A source said: “The dead man has three distinct puncture wounds to his abdomen. He bled out on the ground, just feet from the apartment block where he lived.

“The working theory at the moment is he was trying to cross these gates on the way home and will now be became impaled on the railings. He was quite a big man and it is believed he pulled himself off the railings but the injuries were so bad he passed out as he suffered shock and blood loss.”

A pal of Mr Burke arrived at the scene and became deeply distressed as he spoke to gardai.

A woman, who did not wish to be identified, told the Irish Mirror the community was devastated to learn of the tragedy.

She said: “Everyone knew him from the supermarke­t – he was a very jolly man.”

Gardai issued a witness appeal to help them with their case. A statement read: “Officers in Dun Laoghaire are investigat­ing the discovery of the body of a male in a laneway in Dalkey at approximat­ely 8.30am.

“Anyone who may have been on that laneway overnight or early this morning or anyone with any informatio­n is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda station on 01 6665000.

“They can also call the Garda Confidenti­al Line on 1800 666 111 or any station.”
