GARDA ‘COKE SHAME’

»Cops probe female officer ‘caught snorting’ in nightclub »Drugs raids launched after she claims colleague is dealer

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR and PAT FLANAGAN

A FEMALE garda allegedly found using cocaine identified a colleague as her dealer, it has been claimed.

The alleged incident is understood to have occurred on a weekend before Christmas at a nightclub in Co Kildare.

Security staff at the venue are believed to have found the young woman using the drug in a toilet.

A source said last night: “This is shocking. Gardai are absolutely disgusted to hear that

this happened. There are brave and courageous members putting themselves in danger every day of the week fighting drug gangs, there is a murderous feud in Dublin and the fact of the matter is cocaine sales in Ireland directly fund these gangs.

“It is very positive gardai in Kildare reacted so swiftly to deal with this incident and moved on the people involved.”

It is not known if the woman allegedly involved has been suspended.

It is understood when gardai questioned her she identified herself as an officer stationed in the Midlands.

When quizzed further she is believed to have identified her alleged dealer as a fellow member of the force.

Gardai are understood to have immediately called senior officers who put a plan in place to target the drugdealing operation.

They obtained a search warrant under the drugs act and raided a number of addresses – including that of a serving garda.

It has not been confirmed if illegal substances were found during those searches.

Responding to the Irish Mirror last night, a spokesman said: “An Garda Siochana does not comment on internal disciplinary investigations.”
