A TOP Irish amateur boxer has hit back after being confronted by vigilantes and the footage put on social media.

Conor Wallace, a six-time All-ireland champion, was met by a group of men and women outside a hotel in Newry, Co Down.

The PSNI took the 21-year-old to safety after a member of the public witnessed him being cornered and contacted the cops.

The middleweight is also well-known for working with UFC superstar Conor Mcgregor during a 2016 training camp in the run-up to his Nate Diaz rematch.

A video viewed thousands of times online shows accusations being made against Wallace by the vigilante group.

LURED

In response, he publicly posted a video on his Facebook account saying he had been “lured” yesterday morning to train a man who contacted him on Snapchat called Darren O’neill.

He added: “After I arranged to meet him I arrived at Canal Court to be met by a group of vigilante-style people who made all kinds of accusations against me.

“I would like to make it public that I have not been arrested nor charged with anything. The PSNI took me for my own safety after a member of the public rang the PSNI after he witnessed me being cornered by men wearing knuckle dusters etc.

“I would appreciate all your help and support on this matter and this is all I can say as my legal team is now dealing with this matter. Thank you very much for your help and support.”
