Fair City rapist Dan becomes second character on soap to die within a week
FAIR City took another shocking turn last night as a second character was killed off within a week.
Just days after the horrific death of Hannah Mark, there was more drama in Carrigstown as rapist Dan, played by Steve Gunn, passed away.
The 40-year-old Dublin actor told the Irish Mirror: “When you join the show, you know this is not a gig for life.
“I’ve been living with the news for a while, so I’ve come to terms with it.”
The actor has been playing the role for more than four years.
Steve said: “I was really lucky to get to play a character with so many interesting storylines. Dan was from Carrigstown but he left just before the show started and left and joined the Army.
“When he shows up he started going out with Carol for a while then Yvonne and then the girls had a bit of a row. Then there was a gas explosion and he ended up in a wheelchair and his old friend Robbie from the Army showed up.
“Then it turns out that Dan had raped Robbie’s girlfriend when they were back in the army and he’s the father of a child who showed up in Carrigstown as well. So it’s been an incredible journey.”

But it was his old pal Robbie that he had his final moments with in the hospital.
Steve admitted he will miss working on the long-running drama but is gearing up for new challenges.
He said: “I did a bit in a Mel Gibson movie, which will be out soon The Madman and the Professor.
“Sean Penn and Mel Gibson were floating around Dublin this time last year shooting and I had a nice little scene with one of the leads Natalie Dormer.
“It’s nice to have that in the pipeline.”
