MEPHAM SO FOCUSED IN MAD WORLD

-

CHRIS MEPHAM admits he has much to learn – despite starring at the heart of Brentford’s defence.

The Welshman has only recently won a place in the Bees side due to injuries but has certainly looked the part.

Mepham (above) said: “Andreas Bjelland has helped settle me into the team. I’m pleased with my performances.

“I’ve still got a lot to learn.

When you play a striker like Gary Madine, you’re always going to be locked in plenty of duels and it’s something I need to get better at.

“I’m constantly looking at my clips after games and putting in the hours on the training pitch to ensure that I’m going into those duels as positive as possible.”

Brentford comfortably beat lowly Bolton thanks to Florian Jozefzoon’s early effort and a late goal from Neal Maupay.

Mepham said: “It was a hardfought win. We were sloppy at times – particularly in the second half – but the most important thing was that we got the three points. We defended with our lives and were rewarded with the win.

“We had to be patient and ultimately tired them out by keeping the ball.

“We’ve got good attacking players in the team, so it’s important that we keep it tight at the back to allow those forward players the opportunity to win us the game.”

Bolton remain a point above the bottom three but boss Phil Parkinson was not too disappointed.

He said: “We’re back at home next weekend against Ipswich and we’ve got a good week to prepare for that.

“We’ve had a good run over Christmas and New Year and although this is a setback, other teams have lost around us so it’s as you were.”
