Feeling ruff after dog marathon

-

When ITV’S new boss Dame Carolyn Mccall turned up for her first day, she had a huge to-do list.

Her three most important tasks though were surely: 1. Kick the backside of the berk who failed to buy Bake Off. 2. Find a long term alternative to Simon Cowell’s talent shows. 3. Fix Tuesday nights.

She should mark that last one extra urgent. Because ITV’S latest attempt to tackle a flop zone that has seen more stinkers over the past five years than a Tommee Tippee nappy bin really took the biscuit. The dog biscuit, in fact. Favourite Dogs

was, on the face of it, not that awful an idea. Lots of people are interested in dogs, after all.

Problem was they counted down the lot. And it took two and a half hours! You could have taken your dog out for a walk (to the next town) at No 85 and still been back in time to see the labrador being crowned No1.

Lazy schedule filling like this is just not good enough. Sadly it will get worse before it gets better. It’s the NTAS next Tuesday, but the following week ITV’S offering is Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100.

Hmmm. I have a feeling No 1 might be “From my sofa to my TV – with a brick.”

PS. My favourite dog breed is the German Shepherd, which has now been in the top 10 for 100 years.

So if I ever buy one, I’m going to call it Ed Sheeran.
