O’connor gets Town loan spell

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

KEVIN O’CONNOR has joined Fleetwood Town on loan from Preston North End until the end of the season.

The former Cork City left-back was finding regular first team action hard to come by at Deepdale having made just nine appearances since joining in the summer.

But the Wexford man who scooped a cool €1million in the Irish lottery earlier this month - hopes to make an immediate impact with the Cod Army in League One.

He said: “It’s a place I’m really happy to come to. Their left-back moved on earlier in the transfer window and they were in touch for a few weeks.

“I’m happy to get the deal done. I just want to get out there and play a few more regular games - it’s confidence really just playing week in, week out.

“At Preston I didn’t really get too much of a run of games and your confidence obviously drains from not playing and just training.

“But a run of games is what every footballer wants, just to get out there and show what they can do. The confidence comes back then and that is when you play your best football.”

Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler said: “Kevin is very talented, he has a great left foot and brings everything we want into the team.

“We’ve been monitoring him for a while now and are delighted to have him.”

LIMERICK have signed Darren Dennehy ahead of the new season.

The centre-back arrives from St Patrick’s Athletic where he missed most of last season through injury.

Dennehy’s brother Billy signed for Limerick last week.
