Tom is a Thor loser
Hammer falls after rugby champ’s Norse god paso doble
RUGBY star Tomas O’leary’s dancing days were kicked into touch last night as he became the second celebrity to be booted off Dancing With The Stars.
After being one of the highest-scoring celebs the previous week, the sporting ace bowed out of the RTE series.
Tomas and his partner Giulia Dotta divided the judges with their paso doble to Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, as featured in Thor: Ragnarok, notching up 16 points.
While the Cork man was disappointed to be leaving the show so soon, he revealed he was looking forward to getting back to family life. He told the Irish Mirror: “I thought the dance was decent. We enjoyed it anyway. At least I get to go home dressed as Thor – we’ll look on the bright side.
“It’s a TV show, it’s reality TV, I wasn’t too stressed about asking people to vote.
“If anyone asked me I’d say it’s a real enjoyable process, learning a little bit how to dance – obviously not well enough.
“I’m a bit disappointed to go now, especially for Giuila, she put in a lot of work.
“It’s been tough for Julie down home in Cork while I’m in Dublin, dancing. It’ll be great to get back home and help her out a little bit.”
Asked who he’s rooting for to take home the Glitterball trophy, Tomas said: “I got very close with Rob and obviously Marty. With the amount of effort Rob is putting in hopefully he does well.
“My fellow Corkonian Anna as well, she was amazing.”
The retired 34-year-old revealed gruelling rehearsals played up his old rugby injuries, particularly his back.
GAA star Anna Geary and dancer Kai Widderington wowed judges with a contemporary ballroom routine to Let It Go from Frozen. The Ireland’s Fittest Family coach was awarded a total of 27 from the judges – just three points off a perfect score.
Julian said: “This was magnificent – you’re back in the race girl. That melted my
heart.” After topping the leaderboard the week before, model Alannah Beirne and pro Vitali Kozmin danced an American Smooth to City Of Stars from La La Land, netting the Britain’s Next Top model beauty 26 points.
Marty Morrissey and partner Ksenia Zsikhotska gave their rendition of the American Smooth to Pretty Irish Girl from Darby O’gill and the Little People. After last week’s controversy, which saw the sports presenter earn just eight points, the judges were far more kind and gave him 15. Singer Jake Carter and professional Karen Byrne cha cha cha-ed his way to a score of 24 to The Power Of Love from Back To The Future. Maia Dunphy and partner Robert Rowinski got up close and personal with their Rumba to Up Where We Belong from An Officer And A Gentleman. After a shaky start to the competition, the broadcaster notched up 20 points and was cheered on by her comedian husband Johnny Vegas in the audience.
Erin Mcgregor and dance pro Ryan Mcshane danced the Charleston to Woo Hoo from Kill Bill.
The fitness model earned plenty of praise from the judges for the creative arrangement, nabbing her a score of 21.
Comedian Bernard O’shea tried on a very different look as he and dancer Valeria Milova danced the paso doble to He’s A Pirate from Pirates Of The Caribbean. Dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow from the film, the Breakfast Republic star scored 18.
Actress Deirdre O’kane and her partner John Edward Nolan channelled Old Hollywood glam with a quickstep routine to Peppy And George from The Artist.
The Moone Boy star earned a standing ovation from the audience and a score of 25 from the judging panel.
Olympian Rob Heffernan showed his dancing stripes with pro Emily Barker as they performed the Samba to Jump In Line from Beetlejuice and earned 20 points.
