TEEN ‘OBLITERATED’ BY A HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER

Dad’s plea after boy mowed down

DAD issued a desperate appeal for information yesterday after his son was left seriously injured following a hit-and-run.

Concerned father John said he was shocked someone could have left anyone like that on the road, let alone a 14-yearold child.

Sean, who was cycling home to his family in Tallaght, South Dublin, was just minutes from his house when he was ploughed down by the speeding driver in Fettercairn on Sunday.

He received several fractures to his skull, his elbow was “obliterated” and his leg and ankle broken. The incident occurred on the Cheeverstown Road in Tallaght just before 9pm when Sean was hit by what’s believed to be a black 05 vehicle, possibly a Passat, a Saab or a BMW.

His bike was left in pieces after the smash, which took place around 8.50pm on Sunday.

Speaking to 98FM’S Dublin Talks, John said: “I’ve been in with him all night, he needs to have several operations and scans, we should know exactly what’s happening soon.

“So far, he has two breaks in one leg, a shattered elbow, multiple fractures to his skull and his face, and there’s a big gash going across his forehead. He’s covered in bruises.

“He knows what happened to him. But it’ll be a long recovery for him – they told me six months.

“I was at the scene two minutes after it happened. I wouldn’t want anyone to see what I saw, it was horrific. I can’t understand how someone could leave a child like that.

“Even if the driver was in shock they could have come back, but they didn’t.” Sean’s aunt Ciara said it was clear the hit-and-run driver was in the wrong according to witnesses at the scene last night.

She added: “He was on his way home through the traffic lights, he had the green man and he was crossing.

“He was unconscious after it happened apparently, but by the time I got there he was screaming for his dad.”

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

They said: “Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda station on 01 666 6000, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”
