gunned down at his home on Poplar Row, Ballybough, in Dublin’s north inner city, in 2016.

He was shot dead in the gangland war which has claimed at least 14 lives.

Sources said the taxi driver was a soft target for the gang who were thirsty for vengeance after the Regency atrocity.

In recent weeks the Irish Mirror reported the latest man arrested was subject to a graffiti campaign of intimidation by associates of the Hutch clan. The volatile thug attacked two members of the Hutch family in recent weeks, slashing their faces.

Last week sources said he was the Hutch’s No1 target and the guns seized by armed gardai in a raid on January 12 in the north inner city were intended for a hit on him. Eddie’s remains at his home

One of the theories being explored is the arrested man was either the gunman or was involved in the shooting of Derek Hutch.

A Garda statement said: “Gardai arrested a man on Monday in connection with the murder of Edward Hutch which occurred on February 8, 2016.

“He was conveyed to Mountjoy Garda station where he was subsequently detained under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act, 2007 as amended.

“He can be held for a period of up to seven days.” GARDAI have arrested a former Hutch hood for the murder of feud victim Eddie Hutch Senior.

The brother of Gerry “The Monk” was blasted to death by a Kinahan hit squad just days after David Byrne’s killing at the Regency Hotel.

Gardai have already arrested two suspects and the latest man to be held is also suspected of involvement in the recent Derek Coakley Hutch murder at a halting site near Clover Hill Prison.

A source said: “The man is a well-known criminal who is part of the Kinahan operation.

“He was a former member of the Hutch side but he has shifted loyalty.

“He has caused a lot of trouble recently but clearly was involved from the beginning of this extermination campaign by the Kinahan side.

“He is right up there as one of the driving forces behind this horrific feud.

“It is not known if he was the gunman for the Eddie Hutch killing but was almost certainly on the periphery.

“Investigators have received new information that has led them to arrest the man and bring him in for questioning.

“He has been under a lot of stress recently and is said to be exhausted.

“Hopefully he will be able to help gardai with their enquiries.” Eddie was Eddie Hutch Senior was shot dead in 2016 LAW enforcement agencies are to get a crucial new tool to strip gangsters in the North of their cash and luxury cars.

But moves to equip officers with “unexplained wealth orders” have been delayed due to Stormont being suspended.

The legislation “requires a person who is reasonably suspected of involvement in serious crime to explain the nature and extent of their interest in particular property and how the property was obtained”.
