Kane scored first Spurs goal in Dublin & now an Irishman is out to help Newport stop one of the most lethal hitmen in English football

HARRY KANE’S first Tottenham goal came against Shamrock Rovers in a 2011 Europa League clash in Tallaght.

And Padraig Amond - a former Hoop - was in the stands to see it.

Kane hasn’t looked back since and is smashing records for fun with Amond convinced he can one day collar Alan Shearer in the Premier League’s all-time race.

But Amond is out to stop the England star at Wembley tomorrow when Newport look to create another shock in this FA Cup fourth round replay.

Having dumped

Leeds United in the previous round, Amond stunned Spurs with a goal before half-time at

Rodney Parade 10 days ago.

And the League Two men looked on course for a famous victory until Kane popped up with an equaliser eight minutes from time.

Post-match commitments meant Amond did not get to chew the fat with the goal-scorer supreme.

“When the game finished, I was dragged off for an interview with BT Sport,” he told Mirror Sport. “When it was over, I thought I was heading for the dressing room but I had to do BBC Radio, BBC Match of the Day and bein Sports. “Then it was a station in Qatar, one in Dubai, FOX Italy and then FOX America. By the time I got in, every one of our players were gone never mind theirs!

“People were asking me if the lads were disappointed after the game and I honestly don’t know, because I didn’t see them.

“But it’s surreal looking at the screenshots I’ve been sent saying ‘1-1, Kane and Amond’ (left). “Normal time, extra-time and penalties, or the toss of a coin, I don’t care, I just want to win because that’s all that matters.” Amond has nothing but admiration for how his opposite number tomorrow has gone about his business since opening his ac- count in Tallaght. It’s a great story of hard work and perseverance as he went on loan to Millwall and Leicester and got the head down,” he said.

“A lot of the Spurs players who saw him in youth teams are probably surprised at his rise to score 100 Premier League goals as quick as he has.

“He’s one of the best in the world. Watching our game back, when he scores the goal the commentator said “30th goal of the season”, and that’s in January! That’s scary.

“He does the same in the Champions League and he scores all kinds of goals too. He’s only going to get better as he’s still very young.”

Kane, 24, scored his 100th Premier League goal in 141 appearances from the penalty spot in Tottenham’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday.

And Amond would not bet against him collaring Shearer’s record of 260 before he eventually calls time on his career.

Amond said: “Shearer will be worried. The only way Kane won’t break it is if he moves to Spain.

“He’ll break it if he stays in the Premier League.”
