SURVIVAL IS A BYWORD AT BREWERS

-

STEPHEN BYWATER is convinced bottom club Burton can beat the drop once again.

The veteran keeper’s clean sheet ended a five-match losing run for the Championship’s smallest club.

Nigel Clough’s boys are four points adrift of safety but have out-of-form Nottingham Forest and Barnsley up next.

Albion defied the odds to stay up in their first campaign in the second tier last term.

Bywater (above) said: “It’s definitely game on. We have to play the teams around us and we really believe we can do this.

“It’s exciting, this is what football is about. We are getting to the nitty-gritty. We won’t win the league – but we can stay in the league. We’re playing like a team that believes, and that doesn’t fear anyone.”

Former Ipswich striker Darren Bent is on loan from Derby to boost the Brewers’ fire-power and it took a good save from Town keeper Bartosz Bialkowski to keep him out.

The Pole also denied Kyle Mcfadzean in the dying moments, with Poland boss Adam Karawka watching from the stands.

Ipswich were toothless in attack, with Mustapha Carayol – on his debut – coming closest with a 30-yard screamer.

Carayol, who is on loan from Nottingham Forest, said: “I caught the ball really cleanly and it won’t be the last fans will see me hit from distance. I will probably get sent off for my celebrations if I do and it goes in.”
