Class Carr can drive Rovers on

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

SHAMROCK ROVERS have completed the signing of English striker Daniel Carr after a successful trial period with the club.

The 24-year-old began his career in Reading’s youth system in 2010 and has played for 11 different clubs – permanent and loan – since then.

He was on the books of Huddersfield Town, Cambridge United and Dulwich Hamlet amongst others.

Carr’s most recent club was the Swedish side Karlstad but he featured for Rovers on their pre-season trip to Portugal last week.

And eyeing Friday’s derby against Bohemians, he said: “I’ve heard about the rivalry and it’s going to be fun to play in it.

“This is a new chapter in my career. Now is the time to move on and look to the future and hopefully score goals and do well for Rovers.”

Hoops boss Stephen Bradley allowed teenage striker Michael O’connor join Finn Harps on loan last week as Carr was being lined up.

Carr was recommended to Bradley by a former team-mate from his days in England and he said: “We’ve really like what he’s brought to the group.

“He’s different to what we have and brings different attributes and sees the game differently to our other attacking players.”

Bradley continued: “There was never a panic for another striker, we just needed to get the right one.”

Bradley continued: “Dan’s unpredictability around the box is something that will catch a lot of people out this year.”
