Ten retiring gardai given €1.8m lump sum payout
Noirin O’sullivan FORMER Garda chief Noirin O’sullivan shared a pension lump sum payoff of €1.853million with nine of her high-ranking colleagues last year.
New figures show that in total, retiring officers received €22.2million – down marginally from the €22.5million paid out in 2016.
The highest lump sum paid out was €262,000 with two others getting €207,000 each and four receiving between €170,000 and €176,000.
The identity of the officer to be given the top amount is not disclosed but by virtue of her €180,613 salary, Ms O’sullivan would have qualified for one of the highest sums.
Three Assistant Commissioners – Michael O’sullivan, Jack Nolan and John O’mahoney – also stepped down and would have been in line for lucrative pay-offs.
In common with other members retiring with a full entitlement, Ms O’sullivan will receive an annual pension of half her pensionable pay and would have got a lump sum of one-and-a-half times her pensionable pay.
A Justice Department spokesman said yesterday: “The department is not in a position to reveal the personal details of recipients of pension payments.”
