A VICTIM of Barry Bennell has told how the pervert passed him on to another paedophile youth football coach.
Jason Dunford, 47, said he was approached by Frank Roper within an hour of leaving Bennell’s team. Jason is among victims who fear the pair were part of a wider paedophile ring in the sport. Recalling his horror at being molested by a second coach, Jason said: “I was thinking, ‘This is what goes on in football. I’ve chosen the wrong sport here’.” The Mirror has to victims of Bennell, coaches and club officials who are convinced he did not always act alone and shared details of boys.
Bennell, 64, was this week convicted of 43 child sex assaults and rapes. He had links to a host of top clubs and carried out abuse in the UK and America.
The pervert was also in contact with suspected abusers working for at least one Premier League club and one Championship team.
Jason was just 13 when he fought off Bennell’s attempt to molest him at Butlin’s holiday camp near Pwllheli, North Wales, while playing for a “feeder club” for Manchester City.
Bennell tried again when Jason and other boys stayed at his home.
When Jason later caught him creeping around a boys’ caravan at a tournament, Bennell dropped him from the team. Shortly after telling the pervert he was leaving the club, Jason was contacted out of the blue by Roper, who ran a rival team linked to Blackpool FC.
He said: “Within an hour of that decision he had hit the doorbell and the form was there; in those days your parents had to sign a form.”
Days later, Jason and two other boys were driven to Blackpool and stayed with Roper ahead of a match. The dad-of-four said: “I awoke with his hand on my leg and going up my shorts.

I’ve not even played a game for this guy’.” Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola yesterday paid tribute to victims of Bennell. He told a press conference: “It was a terrible history. “The authorities and the judges will have to try to make a good example for the future so it doesn’t happen again.” Bennell faces dying in jail when he is sentenced on Monday. Roper, who also abused ex-england star Paul Stewart, died in 2005.
