George will have far too much power

-

SOME betting companies have Chris Eubank Jnr slight favourite to beat George Groves tonight.

They must be persuaded by the chat. The Eubanks are good at that stuff, puffing out their chests.

I don’t mind that. It’s theatre, but it’s irrelevant once the bell goes.

Let’s look at the evidence. This is about levels and when you look what Groves has achieved, the way he has done it and who he has fought, he has clearly gone deeper than Eubank Jnr.

Groves has had a long career, suffered disappointments, lost three world title fights before finally breaking through.

When he did against big-punching tough guy Fedor Chudinov, he had to overcome a broken jaw in the second to prevail in the sixth. He has turned his career around. His relationship with his trainer, Shane, my son, has been fantastic, and crucial for his state of mind.

It is massively important that you feel happy in your work, that you trust your trainer absolutely.

Groves is a terrific presence around the gym, no ego, and just about as determined a champion as I have seen.

For him this fight is not an end, but another hurdle on the journey.

He wants the big unification fights, and every defence is a goal towards the next big fight.

I am a big fan of Eubank. He has fast hands, a great engine, a sound chin and he is improving, but he is unproven at this level. There are two ways he approaches this fight. He either tries to stand off Groves and box, or he goes after him from the off. From the way he has been talking I believe it will be the latter.

Groves simply has to control the fight. His jab is one of the best and he will carry that through the fight.

Eubank has a decent dig but he’s not a noted puncher. He has the quicker fists but Groves is way ahead on power. He could knock down a wall.

Eubank looks good against predictable boxers. Arthur Abraham was perfect for him, slow, ponderous and strong, keeps coming forward.

Groves does not fight like that. He’ll have too much for him. He’s too big, too hard a puncher and too tactical.

It will be fascinating to watch, and intense. I see Groves winning on points, but if Eubank gets reckless, he will take him out.
