Rebels on course to move top

- BY PAT NOLAN

THERE’S a top of the table clash in Division Two tomorrow as CAVAN put their unbeaten record on the line in CORK.

The Rebels have hit back from their disappointing loss at home to Tipperary in the opener, their first game at the newly redeveloped stadium, to pick up points on the road in Down before seeing off Louth at Pairc Ui Rinn.

Cavan have momentum too, particularly after last Sunday’s dominant display in beating Meath, having drawn with Clare and beaten Louth prior to that.

Cork look poised to leapfrog them in the table to go top, however.

The only Division Two game to take place today is tonight in Thurles, where look to bounce back from an underwhelming display in Cavan against TIPPERARY.

With both sides sitting on three points each, this game will likely determine whether the rest of the campaign is about striving for promotion or ensuring they avoid the drop.

Having already carelessly dropped points at home to Roscommon, Tipperary should learn from that and move up the table.

For Connacht champions ROSCOMMON the margin for error has all but gone after their sluggish performance in losing to Down last time out.

LOUTH are shaping up to the whipping boys in this division, however, and you’d have to fancy Kevin Mcstay’s side to leave Drogheda with both points.

boss Eamonn Burns would certainly have taken four points from his side’s opening three games at the outset.

He’ll want to maximise the Pairc Esler factor with CLARE coming to Newry tomorrow and he should get his wish to leave them in the promotion hunt.
