ADRIAN MURDER SUSPECT QUIZZED
Man arrested at Wheatfield Prison after he finished serving sentence for traffic offence
GARDAI last night made their first arrest in connection with the murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe.
The 41-year-old, left, was blasted to death while on a cash escort from the Lordship Credit Union in Co Louth in 2013.
The dad of two was ambushed by a five-man gang, understood to be from across the border in Newry, Co Down.
A man in his 20s was arrested yesterday outside Wheatfield Prison where he had finished serving a sentence for traffic offences. A Garda statement said: “As part of the ongoing investigation into the murder
of Adrian Donohoe at the Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, Co Louth, on January 25, 2013, gardai from Dundalk have arrested a male in his 20s in connection with the murder.
“He was arrested in Dublin earlier this evening and is currently being detained at Dundalk Garda station under the provisions of section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 as amended.”
The suspect can be questioned for up to three days.
Gardai have travelled to the US in recent years to interview suspects.
One man was detained and deported last year for overstaying his visa.
He was arrested at Dublin Airport in May and jailed for traffic offences.
Gardai have been working with international police agencies, including the PSNI, UK forces and the FBI, in the hunt for Gda Donohoe’s killers.
