Leinster’s showdown put on ice

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

TRAVEL chaos at Dublin Airport has forced the postponement of Leinster’s PRO 14 visit to the Scarlets.

The top of the table Conference B clash was scheduled to go ahead in Wales tomorrow night.

But it has been put back by PRO14 bosses after it was confirmed Leinster couldn’t travel from Dublin Airport due to the extreme weather conditions.

Ireland supporters had been waiting to see if Garry Ringrose and Joey Carbery would get game time with the province ahead of the 6 Nations clash with Scotland on Saturday week.

A Leinster statement read: “The decision was made after consultation among PRO14 Rugby, Scarlets and Leinster due to severe weather warnings that remain in place across Ireland, the UK, and Europe.

“Due to the extreme weather and the snow and ice warning in Ireland, Dublin Airport is experiencing widespread disruption which will prevent Leinster from travelling to Wales. Details for the rearranged fixture will be announced in due course.

“As has been the case with the other Round 17 postponements, the health and safety of supporters, match officials, players and staff from both clubs has been the foremost consideration.

“It is in the best interests of everyone involved to postpone the fixture.

“Once again, we hope supporters understand the reasons behind this postponement and that any inconvenience caused is minor compared to the impact of making this decision closer to kick-off.

“All purchased tickets for the game will remain valid for the rearranged fixture”.
