Murty the man says ex-skipper

- BY KEITH JACKSON

BARRY FERGUSON has urged Rangers chairman Dave King to make Graeme Murty the new Rangers manager on a full time basis.

And former Gers skipper Ferguson has backed the caretaker boss to give champions Celtic the “fright of their lives” in their quest to wrap up a seventh consecutive top flight title.

The former Ibrox skipper believes Murty has already done enough to deserve a permanent crack at the whip after taking over the reigns from the beleaguered Pedro Caixinha four and half months ago.

And, writing exclusively in today’s paper, Ferguson says: “I must admit, I didn’t really believe he was a serious candidate to be given the role on a full time basis but the more I have seen of his team, the more I have been convinced that he is the right man in the right place at the right time.

“I see a man who is in complete control of his dressing room and building a side which is ready to go toe-to-toe with Celtic next weekend and potentially give the champions the fright of their lives in the run in to the title.

“When you consider the mess that he inherited from Pedro Caixinha the turnaround has actually been quite incredible and as far as I’m concerned no matter what happens between now and the end of the season - Murty has more than earned the right to call himself the manager of Rangers.

“He has given my old club a sense of pride and respectability and he should be rewarded for doing that with a new long term deal.

“Rangers finally look like a side that is going places. For that reason alone, Murty must stay.”
