We didn’t have Chemistry in Girls Aloud

- BY DEMELZA de BURCA

THE Girls Aloud feud shows no sign of ending as Nadine Coyle admitted she does not miss her former bandmates.

Revealing more dark secrets about life in one of the biggest female pop groups the 32-year-old said they rarely spoke to each other off stage.

Girls Aloud’s third album was called Chemistry but the Derry singer added there was a distinct lack of it between herself, Sarah Harding, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

Nadine told Fabulous magazine: “There was always a distance between us. We all had our own dressing rooms and we’d just meet up to go on stage.

“A lot of the dancers were my friends from very early on so I’d be going out and finding the local gay bar.”

And even when the band took home their first Brit Award in 2009 for The Promise as Best British Single, Nadine said she didn’t want to celebrate with the other girls.

The mum of one added: “What I most enjoyed about that night was going home. I just wanted to be with my friends and have a glass of wine and I enjoyed doing that way more than any of the rest of it.

“It’s never been about the success for me. That has never driven me. It was great to be there, and I still have the award sitting in the house, but it doesn’t bring me joy.

“I’ve never seen it as a sign of achievement. I was there, I went to the parties, but couldn’t wait to get home.” Nadine, who joined Girls Aloud in 2002 on reality show Popstars: The Rivals said relations didn’t turn nasty.

She added: “If it had been toxic or horrendous I don’t think I’d have been able to do it.”

The group split in 2009 and after a failed solo career Nadine is set to go on the road alone for a Girls Aloud greatest hits tour which will see her perform many of the band’s biggest hits as well as new solo tracks. But she confessed she hasn’t stayed in touch with the group adding: “I’ve not spoken to them in a long time.”

And asked if she misses them, Nadine said: “No. They were great colleagues but I have lots of great friends of my own.” With Sarah, Cheryl, Kimberley and Nicola
