SLAP OF GODS

- FROM NEIL MCLEMAN

TYRRELL HATTON has been slammed for blaming the “golfing gods” for missing a putt to make a play-off on Sunday at the Wgc-mexico Championship.

Phil Mickelson beat Justin Thomas at the first extra hole for his first win in over four years.

But new world No.13 Hatton saw his eight-foot par putt at the 18th bounce on the green and come up short as he finished tied for third.

Furious Hatton said: “It was the most horrific bobble I have ever seen with the putt. I guess the golfing gods weren’t with me today.”

But Golf Channel analyst Frank Nobilo said: “He needs to look at that interview. If he keeps talking like that at the end of a chance to win a WGC event, it is not going to help him.”

Mickelson’s last win had been at the 2013 Open and this was also his first victory with his brother Tim as his caddie.

The 47-year-old is up to fourth place in the US Ryder Cup rankings as he seeks a 12th consecutive appearance.
