PEP ACCEPTS RIBBON CHARGE

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

PEP GUARDIOLA has accepted the FA’S charge for wearing his yellow ribbon.

Boss Guardiola had until 6pm yesterday to respond to being charged for wearing it in support of the imprisoned pro-independence politicians and activists in his Catalan

homeland during Manchester City’s Cup defeat to Wigan.

He accepted the charge on Saturday and will not display the ribbon on the touchline, although he is free to show it before and after matches.

However this does not mean the Spaniard has apologised to the FA, who

twice warned him to stop wearing the ribbon in the technical area. City also pointed out inconsistencies in the FA’S approach and highlighted the fact UEFA permit Guardiola to wear it.

Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is worried City may lose their edge in the

Champions League if they win the title early.

They are on course to claim the Premier League in record time, but ahead of tomorrow’s second leg against Basel, he said: “If you are able to win the league quite early, you can lose that seriousness for the Champions League.”
