COLEMAN: FANS RIGHT TO PROTEST

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

SEAMUS COLEMAN can understand Everton fans’ frustrations.

The Republic of Ireland captain is thrilled to be playing again after his lay-off with a double leg break.

And after a thigh injury setback, he returned at the weekend after a three-week absence for just his third appearance of the season but his 250th for the club.

Yet Everton slumped to yet another defeat - against Burnley - to extend their run to just one Premier League win on their travels in 23.

Toffee fans are turning on manager Sam Allardyce and Coleman says they are right to be annoyed. He added: “Can I understand the fans’ frustration? Yeah, of course. They’re travelling

all around the country supporting us. We know just what it means to them.

“It’s no different if I’m sitting in the stand and my team aren’t winning away from home, so of course you can understand their frustration.

“They’re paying good money. It’s up to us on Saturday to put in a performance for our home fans and then kick on and try to win away from home.

“We need their support between now and the end of the season and we’ve got no questions about that because the away fans have been fantastic.”

And Coleman added: “Personally it’s great to be back. But as soon as you’re back and you lose a game, it’s just back to that same old feeling.”
