Sorry Harry, Martin’s simply comedy Gold

- IANHYLAND on last night’s telly

Harry Hill may have won the baking battle on Channel 4 last night but Martin Kemp won the comedy war. The Spandau Ballet bassist’s anecdote on The Great Celebrity Bake Off about arriving for Live Aid in a helicopter piloted by Noel Edmonds was worth the entrance money alone. But he topped that with a glorious display of showbiz pettiness as he presented his showstopper.

Having spent hours crafting a biscuit-based depiction of Spandau playing their Live Aid set he removed the Tony Hadley gingerbread man because “he left the band”.

Whether this was genuine bitterness or simply New Romantic banter didn’t really matter. It was very funny – and Prue and Paul seemed shocked enough.

They were left equally open-mouthed by Harry’s attempt at re-creating the best day of his life. The Day I Went On Holiday With Camilla Parker Bowles featured a giant rainbow, a turtle, a horse on a surfboard and Camilla in a swimsuit.
