union compo call a ‘disgrace’

A UNION official was slammed as a “disgraceful opportunist” after he called for Storm Emma compensation for health workers.

Speaking on Sean O’rourke on RTE Radio 1, Siptu’s Paul Bell called for recompense for those who worked through the crisis and were unable to get to work or go home.

He said: “Some of our members remained at their place of work for over four days. That situation cannot continue.”

But one listener said: “Workers should expect to be pushed that bit further such as in emergencies, natural disasters etc, why expect compensation?”

Another added: “Paul Bell is a disgrace.”
