Respite event tackles family carers crisis
INCREASING difficulties experienced by family carers will be highlighted during National Respite Weekend.
One in 20 people looks after an ill relative providing €10billion in unpaid services to the State each year.
Due to funding and staff cuts, respite has become almost non-existent for parents and the event starting tomorrow aims to tackle the crisis.
The Family Carers Ireland’s Catherine Cox said: “It is important that family carers’ own care needs are met and the resources are available to support them to provide care safely in the home.”
