SIX businesses were served with closure orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland last month.

It revealed four were handed out under the FSAI Act 1998.

One was the Apache Pizza restaurant on Pearse Street, Dublin.

FSAI inspectors served the closure order on February 20, after discovering “substantial rodent droppings” on the floor around the grease trap in the kitchen. After two days it was lifted.

A closure order was also issued against the food area of the bar of The Carrickdale Hotel in Carrickarnon, Dundalk.

Inspectors served it on February 21 after finding “current mouse activity” in the bar area, but lifted it three days later.

A “large amount of rodent droppings” also led to the closure of The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, Great William O’brien Street, Blackpool, Cork on February 19. It was lifted four days later.

On February 6, the Hennessy Garden Centre Cafe, Carlow Road, Gowran, Kilkenny was issued with a closure order.

At the time of publication, it has yet to be lifted.

Two more closure orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.

On February 14, China Kitchen, Market Street, Clonmel, Co Tipperary was issued with a closure order after inspectors discovered a number of issues. It was lifted the following day.

The FSAI also closed Flame Street Food, Washington Street, Cork on February 9.

At the time of publication, it has still not been lifted.
